Meet the Speakers:

Breakfast Speaker - Kristen M. Whittle

Kristen M. Whittle is a partner at Barton Gilman LLP, a litigation firm with offices in Providence, Boston, and New York. Kristen regularly advises employers on all aspects of the employment relationship—from hiring through separation—and she frequently reviews and revises personnel policies and handbooks. She devotes a significant portion of her practice to assisting clients in the nonprofit and small business communities. Kristen is a frequent speaker on employment law topics, including wage and hour issues and family and medical leave, and she has written articles on a number of legal issues facing Rhode Island employers.  Kristen regularly represents clients in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.

Keynote Speaker - James P. "Jim" Reidy

Attorney James P. “Jim” Reidy of Sheehan, Phinney, Bass & Green is a management side labor and employment lawyer who represents organizations ranging from multi-national corporations, to closely-held businesses, to not-for-profit entities and public sector employers. He chairs the firm’s labor and employment group which is recognized as one of New England’s best.

Jim presents seminars on a wide range of labor and employment law topics. He is a workplace law resource for several media outlets including SHRM’s HR Magazine, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Kiplinger, CNN, HR Breakroom, and HR Power Hour, as well as several local media outlets.  Jim is also a regular presenter at SHRM’s Annual Legal and Legislative Conference, as well as SHRM’s national conventions.

The presentation will focus on legal issues and hiring strategies in the era of legalized marijuana. His presentation will provide best practices for adjusting employee handbooks, policies, procedures, and training to deal with legal marijuana use by employees and applicants.
