SHRM Certification

RI SHRM's focus on the SHRM Certification Program is to increase the number of members who are certified as SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP Professionals. In order to accomplish this, RI SHRM offers this resource to assist members in determining which certification is best for them professionally, and to share information about the Certification process, the Certification Prep Course, and the Certification Exam.

Set Yourself Apart by Obtaining the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP Certification

Certification not only prepares you for the challenges ahead, but also sets you on a path for further success. By earning your SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP®) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP®) credential, you demonstrate that you’re invested in your career and ready to lead.

Unlike memorization-based certification credentials, SHRM certification measures an HR professional's most critical skill: the ability to apply HR principles to real-life situations. No other exam compares.

Prove your HR knowledge—and how you can apply that knowledge to your leadership skill set. Gain a platform to show you’re ready to take on the next challenge.

Get Started:

  1. Determine your eligibility using the SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP eligibility chart.
  2. Apply for the exam. Find upcoming deadlines, exam windows and fees and submit your application.
  3. Choose a SHRM certification preparation option, based on your learning style and schedule. Discover available learning options.
  4. Take the exam and leverage your certification! Continue ongoing learning and development through recertification.

The SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP credentials are:

Competency-Based. SHRM certification tests your ability to apply your knowledge on the job. After all, HR is about how you effectively implement your knowledge in the workplace every day.

Relevant. SHRM certifications directly link to on-the-job scenarios and realistic work situations.

Universally Applicable. Built upon one comprehensive SHRM Body of Competency and Knowledge, SHRM certification is applicable across industries, geographic borders, job responsibilities and career levels.

Accredited. The SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP exams are accredited by the Buros Center for Testing, asserting that the HR credentials meet the highest standards in testing.

Backed by SHRM. SHRM certification is the only HR certification offered by the world’s largest HR membership organization.
